We traditionally have a family campfire every Saturday evening, weather permitting. This is a weekly event that my son, Del enjoys greatly. It is one of the few things that will get him out of the house to play in the yard while dinner is cooking over the campfire. Del loves being outdoors when it suits him. (i.e. eating, swimming, swinging, riding the tractor or ATV) There isn't much else that can convince him to venture outside.
The initial transition of going outside, even to participate in one of his favorite activities is quite an ordeal. He always starts out by resisting the entire process of getting ready to head outside, but we eventually get there. The simple task of heading out of the house, which should only take a few minutes to accomplish, can often drag out to an one hour process!
Let's see how he does this afternoon!
This BLOG is written from a Mother's point of view regarding the raising of my son, Del, whom is severely autistic and completely non-verbal. We have our good days, and our not-so-good days. But at the end of every day he is still my shining star! I welcome comments and suggestions from other parents raising autistic children. This BLOG is my sometimes necessary 'Stress Reliever!'

Last Day of School!.... yeah, right!!!
Well, today was the last day of the official school year, but as any parent of an autistic child knows... education is yearround! Structure is key with my son. Without structure, everything is just CHAOS in Del's mind and he makes no secret about his displeasure when his schedule is altered in any way at all. So next Monday should be a real treat trying to get him settled into a new 'summertime routine.' He'll probably be fine with the new schedule by the end of next week, so there is light at the end of the tunnel. (there always is)
Now that the children are tucked into bed for the evening, it's time for this mom to get a few loads of wash done!
Be Well!
